England flanker Lewis Moody is set to end his 14-year association with Leicester in the summer after he agreed a shock move to Bath.

Moody made his first-team debut at the Tigers in 1996 and has gone on to make 216 appearances but he has now agreed a three-year deal to move to Leicester's rivals at The Rec.

And the 31-year-old, who has also represented the British & Irish Lions, admitted he is relishing the chance for a fresh challenge.

"I am really looking forward to an exciting new challenge at this stage of my career," said Moody.

"Bath's values perfectly suit my own, it is a great City and Club, with a real family feel and a close knit and impressive squad.

"I have always known that if I was ever going to leave Leicester, the only club I would consider in the UK would be Bath. They play an exciting brand of rugby and having spent time with both Steve Meehan and Nick Blofeld I am sure that there are exciting years ahead."

Winner

Bath head coach Steve Meehan is pleased to have completed the transfer coup - claiming Moody will become a key asset.

"Lewis is a proven winner and he brings vast experience, a fierce determination and great attitude with him," said Meehan.

"Adapting to our style of play shouldn't be a problem and we expect him to help create more opportunities and momentum up front."

Despite seeing one of his star men leave, Tigers head coach Richard Cockerill has praised Moody's attitude during his time at the Tigers.

He said: "Lewis has been a big part of this club for a long time and he has won every major honour in his time here.

"Everyone knows about the enthusiasm he brings to his game, and that has not altered during his 14 years in the first-team squad, which says a lot for his attitude to the game of rugby.

"We wish him well as he takes up a new challenge for next season and I know he will receive a very warm welcome from our supporters whenever he returns.

"I'm sure he will be looking to go out on a high note and we look forward to his return to Leicester for the run-in to the end of this season after international duty at this season's Six Nations."

Yes Lewis will be a big loss, but over the past few years he has played relatively few games for Tigers, due to International duty and injuries he has been reduced to almost being a replacement player. His move frees up a huge amount of money for the Tigers towards the salary cap. I suspect Leicester will be far happier with the outcome even though they will lose such a great player. Lewis thanks for all the great years of entertainment, good luck for the future

Very, very good signing for Bath. If he retains his fitness he will help Bath replace some of the leaders and major players who have left Bath in recent seasons. He will be missed by the Tigers. He will be a huge hit for Bath. I think he has become a much better player as the years have passed. I am surprised that a French side have not come in for him. I think anyone who has watched his totally committed playing style for the Tigers and England over the years will wish him well.

i am cocerned that we seem to be losing to many very good players this year. Has there been any underlying reason why?

Bill he is 31 - what was the average age of the England back row when they won the World Cup??!! Lewis is a great player who will bring experience and passion. I know Tigers fans are gutted he's leaving which shows just how good a player he is.

Leicester are losing such a good person to have around the club. Lewis will be missed at the Tigers but we have aready got a repleacment for him in Thomas Waldroom - he will not be as mad as 'Mad Dog', but he will do his best trying to replace him.

I can't say that I am thrilled at the prospect of Lewis Moody joining Bath. "Long in the tooth" and "twilight of career" spring to mind."Headless chicken" sums up my feeling about his playing style. I was wrong about the signing of Jonathan Humphreys a few years back. He almost single handedly kept Bath up (while Connolly and Foley conspired to ruin a good team) with his sheer bloody-mindedness and leadership qualities and although Bath are a million miles away from those dark days Moody will surely add committed performances. I am trying to be positive.

Leicester losing someone like Lewis is a big loss for the club and it may come back to bite them in the years ahead. How do you replace such a World Class player and a born winner in every context?
