Wolves midfielder Dave Jones has been offered a contract extension after a series of fine performances.

Jones has steadily improved in recent months after his involvement in the first half of the season was restricted by a knee problem that required surgery.

He turned in another eye-catching display in Saturday's draw with Midlands rivals Aston Villa and manager Mick McCarthy is keen to tie him down to a new deal.

Jones was already contracted to the club until June 2011, having moved to Molineux from Derby in 2008, but McCarthy is looking to secure the services of all his key players.

"Dave has been injured in the early part of the season - he was getting over a knee problem and we had to protect him," McCarthy told Wolves' official website.

"But we all know of his ability and his technical ability which is not in question.

"He had to get into the team and play and he has done it and he is another one we have offered a contract to.

"He was excellent again on Saturday and showed a good understanding with Kevin Doyle."
