American takes fourth straight World Cup title, Paerson wins

Lindsey Vonn claimed a fourth straight World Cup title in the downhill after finishing second to Anja Paerson in Tarvisio. Paerson set a time of 1 minute 26.91 seconds on the Prampero course to comfortably claim her first win of a season that has been blighted by knee problems. Vonn was 0.73s behind the Swede, extending her lead in the downhill standings to an unassailable 143 points over Maria Riesch. Austria's Elisabeth Goergl - the newly-crowned world champion in the event - finished 1.17s back to complete the podium in third. Riesch retains the lead in the overall World Cup standings after trailing home in sixth, but now holds a reduced advantage of 136 points. Vonn can make up even more ground in the Super-G on Sunday, where she can also claim her third crystal globe of the season having also secured the super-combined title on Friday. The course in Italy was shortened due to a lack of training on the upper section.
