Roger Charlton, a dual winner of the Betfred Cambridgeshire, will saddle both Cry Fury and Proponent at Newmarket on Saturday.

Proponent was beaten a little over five lengths in the fiercely competitive handicap 12 months ago and returns to Headquarters in rude health following a most encouraging second in the totesport Mile at Goodwood.

Cry Fury is far less exposed, having run just five times, but Charlton, who won the race in both 1995 and 2005, saw enough in his recent outing at Doncaster to suggest he can give a good account. He is currently trading as a best-priced 12/1.

"The plan is for both horses to run at the moment and I'm very happy with them," said Charlton.

"Proponent has been kept especially for the Cambridgeshire since his excellent run at Goodwood and is currently on offer at 20/1.

"I was pleased with the way Cry Fury ran at Doncaster the other day, and hopefully both horses have fair chances."
