Wild card Michael Jepsen Jensen was in dreamland when he won his first-ever Grand Prix in Vojens on Saturday.

The Danish prospect - making only his second appearance as a Grand Prix rider - won the Nordic Speedway GP after getting up the inside of compatriot Nicki Pedersen on the final lap.

Pedersen got the best start from Gate 1 but Jepsen Jensen, racing from Gate 2, stayed in contention throughout before making his decisive pass, with Emil Sayfutdinov way back in third and Jason Crump bringing up the rear.

The 20-year-old's achievement came after he had only taken his place in the semi-finals on countback, being one of four riders tied on seven points following the heats.

Despite being beaten into second, Pedersen will have been well pleased with his night's work.

The three-times world champion earned a massive 20 points to close the gap on series leader Chris Holder to just two points heading into the final GP in Torun in a fortnight's time.

Current world champion Greg Hancock is the only other rider to realistically have a chance of lifting this year's world crown, now sitting ten points behind the Australian.

Both Holder and Hancock made the semis, picking up 11 and 9 points respectively, while Sayfutdinov earned 15 points to sit 22 points off Holder in fourth going into Torun.

But it was a night to forget for British rider Chris 'Bomber' Harris', who collected just two points from his heats.
