Primevere (9-2) got the better of a sustained duel with 11-8 favourite Ektihaam to win the Eve Trakway Foundation Stakes at Goodwood.

The market leader was wearing blinkers for the first time in the Listed contest and took himself to the front after a furlong but was stalked throughout by the eventual winner.

James Doyle's partner edged ahead after the two furlong marker and while Ektihaam tried to respond, she was always doing enough to fend off his renewed challenge.

At the line, a neck separated the pair with Voodoo Prince, the first foal of Ouija Board, emerging with great credit back in third.

"James said when she got in front she just pulled up a little, but it's hard to hold onto them in this ground," Charlton said.

"She's been very consistent - she was second in Ireland and second at Windsor, and she deserved this.

"I don't know where she'll go now. I was thinking about the EP Taylor Stakes in Canada, but Ed Dunlop says Snow Fairy could go there. We'll have to see. I should think she'll be retired at the end of the year."
