Italy coach Cesare Prandelli says he need to 'renew' his squad ahead of the World Cup finals in 2014.

Italy reached the final of Euro 2012, but they had one of the oldest squads in Poland and Ukraine, and Prandelli knows he needs to make changes.

"For the next matches I hope I make the right choices, but we have the necessity to renew, to plan for these next two years, whilst always looking for the qualification," he said.

"It's something that all the national teams do, because you have not to think about arriving in the next event with all these players who are an old age."

Prandelli also revealed that midfielder Andrea Pirlo - who shone at Euro 2012 - could still play in Brazil despite the fact he would be 35 when the tournament comes around.

"Andrea has to decide for himself and in good time what he wants to do in the future and he still feels the desire to be a key player in the position," Prandelli told Raisport.

"He wants to play to the World Cup and for us he'll always be important."
