James McArthur has praised the contribution of fellow Wigan midfielder James McCarthy, who has been in excellent form for the club this season.

The pair played together at Hamilton and have become regulars in the Latics side, with McCarthy turning in another key performance in their 2-2 draw with Everton.

He is currently away on international duty with Republic of Ireland for their World Cup qualifiers against Germany and the Faroe Islands but it is his impressive club form McArthur was keen to highlight.

"I felt he played his best game of the season at Sunderland a couple of weeks ago (in a 1-0 defeat) and he was fantastic again against Everton.

"He's gone from strength to strength this season and having known him for a long time and through working with him every day, I think he'll only get better.

"He's got a big role for his country now too and hopefully like the rest of us he can impress for his national team and return injury-free for the next league match against Swansea City."
