A swashbuckling half-century from Gary Ballance helped Yorkshire defeat Trinidad & Tobago by six wickets and qualify for the main draw at the Champions League Twenty20.

Having already defeated Sri Lankan outfit Uva Next, Yorkshire are now guaranteed of progressing from Pool 2 and join fellow qualifiers Auckland Aces of New Zealand in the competition real.

Having been set a target of 149 to win, Yorkshire were wobbling somewhat in their chase when man-of-the-match Ballance came together with Adil Rashid with the score at 51-4.

But the duo put on a magnificent 103-run stand in a little over 10 overs to guide their side home with something to spare.

Rashid played a mature hand as he contributed 33 from 27 balls, while Ballance was the aggressor and smashed a brilliant 64 off 37 comprising two fours and six maximums - including one to notch the winning runs.

Trinidad & Tobago had made a good start as they removed openers Andrew Gale and Phil Jaques cheaply inside the first three overs, while England batsman Joe Root made 16 off 18 balls before offering a soft return catch to spinner Rayad Emrit.

Earlier Ryan Sidebottom had taken 3-13 as Yorkshire managed to restrict their opponents to what always looked an attainable score.

Things would have been much worse for Trinidad & Tobago were it not for a 93-run fourth-wicket stand from Darren Bravo (45) and Denesh Ramdin (59), with Kevan Cooper (15) the only other batsman to reach double figures.
