Yusaf Mack labelled Carl Froch a "fake Joe Calzaghe" ahead of their IBF super middleweight title fight and vowed to prove the doubters wrong by beating the Nottingham fighter next month.
"Froch has counted me out, he's looked at my losses in the seventh and eighth but what is he going to do in the seventh and eighth when I am still standing up. They are going to see a new Yusaf Mack."
Yusaf Mack Quotes of the week
Mack, a former light-heavyweight, was on the Ringside set with Calzaghe on Thursday evening ahead of the his bout with Froh on November 17.
The American contender said that Calzaghe - whom he came close to fighting earlier in his career - is one of his "idols" and insisted Froch, who never got to fight the Welshman, did not come close to matching the former WBO, IBF, WBC, and WBA super-middleweight champion.
"He is a fake Calzaghe. He wants to be Calzaghe. He wants to fight like him and do all the moves like him but there is only one Calzaghe," Mack told Ringside.
"I deserve to be in the ring because I got the spot and I am here. I am going to show the world that I am supposed to be here.
"Froch has counted me out, he's looked at my losses in the seventh and eighth but what is he going to do in the seventh and eighth when I am still standing up. They are going to see a new Yusaf Mack.
"I believe that I am one of the top fighters. I just have to prove it. I am ready to prove that I am supposed to be here."
And asked for a prediction for the fight, Mack replied: "A win."
The 32-year-old insisted that he was not impressed with Froch's defeat of Lucien Bute in May, which gave 'the Cobra' the IBF title, and that the home support for Froch in Nottingham would only inspire the Philadelphia more.
"I thought there was something wrong with Bute," he said. "He looked like he had a lot on his mind. He was backing up during the whole fight. He backed up to the ropes like he was nervous or scared.
"I give him (Froch) credit for that but I won't let him do that to me. I will stay in the middle of the ring and not back up. That (the crowd) will feed my fire. He has a lot to prove. He is fighting for his country and for his fans."
Calzaghe disagreed with Mack about the quality of Froch's display against Bute but insisted it would be an exciting fight night, especially if the American evade Froch's big punches.
"It is going to be tough fighting a super middleweight after being a light heavyweight for so many years," he said. "But he is going to come prepared and leave everything in the ring. Carl is always in exciting fights so I think it will be a good night.
"Carl is a big puncher and we have seen him struggle with fast fighters who can move in and out. Obviously standing toe-to-toe would play into Carl's hands but obviously Yusaf will have his own plans and all Yusaf can do is give it his best shot. Which as he says he will do.
"He says he will bring fireworks to November 17 so I am looking forward to it. It will be a good fight."
