Jack Rodwell: Enjoying life at Manchester City and feels young English talent does get a chance at the club
Jack Rodwell has declared he is glad he joined Manchester City and rejected suggestions that young English players do not get a fair chance at the Etihad Stadium.
Former City winger Adam Johnson claimed last weekend that he left the club to join Sunderland in the summer due to his path to the first-team being blocked by the foreign superstars in Roberto Mancini's squad.
Rodwell, who joined City from Everton during the summer transfer window, has no regrets over his switch and does not feel his opportunities are limited by joining the champions.
"I'm young and English. I've not got a bad word to say about City," said Rodwell. "If they want you and sign you, then they have got intent for you.
"I was not guaranteed a starting place at Everton. I had a lot of injuries, Darron Gibson and Marouane Fellaini were in form, so it was a push for me to get in that side.
"Iu2019m young and English. Iu2019ve not got a bad word to say about City."
"But when the champions come knocking, it's hard to refuse."
Rodwell has made five Premier League appearances for City since his arrival from Everton and the England Under 21 international admits he is still adapting to his new surroundings.
"It has been hard to adjust," added Rodwell. "I was at Everton from the age seven.
"Being there 14 years meant any move was going to be big. The methods and styles are very different. The respective managers are very different. The standard of training is amazing."
