Ross Fisher overcame an injury scare to open up a commanding three-shot lead at the halfway stage of the Portugal Masters.

The Englishman needed treatment when he slipped and sprained his ankle while walking off the first tee at Oceanico Victoria, but he played through the pain to fire a four-under 67 in blustery afternoon conditions.

The joint-overnight leader was clearly hampered as he bogeyed the opening hole, but he settled with two pars before balancing the books with a birdie at the fourth.

Fisher churned out seven straight pars and then roared back to the top of the leaderboard with three birdies in four holes, although he gave one back at 16.

But he responded in style when he nailed a 25-foot putt for eagle at the next, and a closing par kept him at 10 under and three clear of Bernd Wiesberger and Stephen Gallacher.

Wiesberger took advantage of the calmer, early conditions to set the early clubhouse target after returning a 65, while Gallacher completed 36 holes without a bogey as he carded 17 pars and a lone birdie in his 70.

Padraig Harrington looked on course to challenge for the lead after playing 11 holes in six under, but a double-bogey at the third halted his momentum as he settled for a 67.

The Irishman is four shots off the pace, while European Tour stalwart Miguel Angel Jimenez is a further stroke back along with former US Open champion Michael Campbell.

Ryder Cup hero Francesco Molinari scraped into the weekend with nothing to spare after a pair of level-par 71s, but Martin Kaymer stumbled to a 75 to bow out on two over par.
