Neil McKenzie and Quinton de Kock smashed superb half-centuries to lead the Lions to a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Mumbai in the Champions League Twenty20.

The third-wicket pair combined for an unbroken stand of 121 as they passed the Indians' sub-par score of 157-6 with seven balls to spare in their opening Group B tussle in Johannesburg.

The Indians batsmen struggled to get the better of a disciplined bowling attack, with Sachin Tendulkar taking 24 balls to make only 16.

Dwayne Smith (26) and Rohit Sharma (27) got the scoreboard ticking over, while Mitchell Johnson ensured a competitive total as he top-scored with 30 from 29 balls.

The Lions reply also got off to a sluggish start, with openers Alviro Petersen and Gulam Bodi both departing within seven overs.

But the confident De Kock cleared the ropes twice and added five further boundaries as he finished unbeaten on 51 from only 33 balls.

De Kock found a perfect foil in the experienced McKenzie, who pierced the infield almost at will as he hammered 12 boundaries in his 41-ball 68 to ensure four points for the Lions.
