Gael Monfils will not play again this season, his coach Patrick Chamagne has confirmed.

The Frenchman has been bothered by knee pain for much of the 2012 season and has slipped to No 47 in the world after missing four months.

Monfils, who reached as high as seventh in the world, was unable to play in the French Open, Wimbledon, Olympics and US Open.

He eventually returned in September, making the semi-finals in Metz, but then pulled out of the Asian ATP swing and lost in the first round in Stockholm this week to Sweden's Patrik Rosenholm, ranked 436 in the world.

"He doesn't have a problem with his knee but we decided there was no point in playing the rest of the year. We have already turned our attention to 2013," Chamagne said.
