Dundee manager Barry Smith declared himself "angry" with his side's performance in the 4-1 defeat to Inverness at Dens Park.

The home side conceded twice within the first 10 minutes, and although Colin Nish pulled one back, Thistle ran out comfortable winners in the second half.

Smith said: "I'm angry because I don't like getting beaten, but it's the manner of the defeat that's the problem.

"We can't afford to be giving teams two goals head start. Our defending through the game wasn't good enough. We don't seem to give ourselves a chance."

But Smith was at least encouraged by the return to action of Nicky Riley, who was passed fit to make his first start of the season.

Smith added: "The massive positive was Nicky Riley coming back in. I thought he did extremely well and gave us something different."
