Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has joined Sunderland counterpart Martin O'Neill in criticising tasteless chants from both sets of fans during Sunday's Wear-Tyne derby.

Some Sunderland supporters repeatedly sang abusive songs about Steven Taylor, while a section of Newcastle's following targeted Lee Cattermole.

Although neither manager heard the chants during the match they have both condemned the people involved.

"They were not acceptable. We don't want that in the game - every type of abuse is not right," Pardew said to the Shields Gazette.

"I hope they are brought to task, if it is found out who they are."
