Gillingham manager Martin Allen says his team have to take their 2-1 defeat to Torquay "on the chin".

Gills striker Deon Burton volleyed the leaders ahead on 52 minutes, before Gulls midfielder Nathan Craig levelled direct from a free-kick wide on the right three minutes later. The comeback was completed by Torquay left-back Kevin Nicholson, who scored the winner with a deflected 30-yard shot.

Allen said: "We had a real go and to lose to a free-kick from out on the touchline into the top stanchion corner and then the lad has hit a 30-yarder that has deflected up over our keeper and into the top of the net was hard to take.

"They had a couple of chances in the first half when I thought they could have gone ahead, but so did we. I suppose through the season there are going to be nights where it is going to happen like that.

"I don't attach any blame to the keeper and it says a lot about us if they are forced to shoot that far out. We will have to take it on the chin. They were in the play-offs last season, to come down here and play like we did, I thought we played some great football with as many changes as we made to freshen it up.

"We looked good, played well, but did not come away the points. Hold your hands up and say well done to Torquay, because they won it. We have had six away wins, we've got got courage and determination. We now go away again backed by our fans at Wimbledon on Saturday."
