Sebastien Pocognoli has been handed a three-match ban after being sent off barely half-an-hour into his Hannover debut at the weekend.
The 25-year-old full-back was dismissed after 34 minutes of Saturday's 2-1 home win over Wolfsburg for his challenge on Fagner.
The German Football Association (DFB) has ruled that Pocognoli's foul was violent conduct, and not just serious foul play, resulting in a three-game suspension which means he will miss games against Werder Bremen, Hoffenheim and Nurnberg.
Hannover have already accepted the sanction for a player they signed from Standard Liege during the winter break.
