Ali Carter booked his place in the final of the Betfair German Masters with a 6-2 victory over Neil Robertson.

Carter took advantage of a poor display from Robertson to advance to Sunday's final, where he will face Marco Fu after he ousted Barry Hawkins 6-4.

Former world championship finalist Carter won a safety battle on the yellow before clearing up the colours to take the opening frame, before also claiming a scrappy second.

Robertson won the next to reduce his deficit but Carter won frame four to take a 3-1 lead into the mid-session interval.

That soon became 5-1 and although Robertson finally found some form with a break of 90 - the highest in the match - to stay alive, the Australian then missed a vital pink in frame eight to allow Carter in to seal the result.

Hong Kong potter Fu overcame a shaky start to edge out Hawkins after a strong finish.

Hawkins came from 50 points behind to snatch the opening frame and took advantage of Fu missing an easy brown in the second to open up a 2-0 lead.

Fu hit back to level, and the next two were shared before a delightful total clearance of 142 put Fu into the lead for the first time, only for Hawkins to level the scores at 4-4.

But another well-crafted century from Fu made it 5-4 and he got over the line at the first attempt to book his date with Carter.
