Stephen Gemmell praises Scotland's sevens after second Plate final defeat

Scotland's interim sevens coach Stephen Gemmell was full of praise for his side despite their second successive loss in the Plate final of the HSBC Sevens World Series.
After losing to Australia in Wellington last week, Scotland came undone against Canada in Las Vegas as they lost 22-5 in the Sam Boyd Stadium, in the American leg of the series.
Gemmell said: "In isolation it's a huge disappointment that the boys did not seize the silverware that they deserved after their efforts of the last two weeks.
"But we must reflect that we reached the Cup quarter-finals at both Wellington and here in Las Vegas and only three other teams managed to do that - Samoa, New Zealand and South Africa.
"We've picked up 12 tournament points again this week which has lifted us above USA, Spain and Portugal in the rankings, we've brought some real tempo into our game and, if you look at some of the teams we've beaten - England and Fiji for example - then the group of players deserve credit."
While the two losses will hurt Gemmell and his squad, Scotland have accumulated 24 tournament points over the past fortnight and now sit 12th in the rankings, giving them a great chance of protecting their core status come the end of the series.
