Australia's Bernard Tomic came back from a set down to get the better of Martin Klizan in the opening round of the Open 13 in Marseille.
Tomic looked set for an early exit when he lost the opening set, but he struck back to take the next two on his way to a 4-6 6-3 7-6 (9/7) win.
In Monday's other first-round game, Jerzy Janowicz had an easy time of it against Lukas Rosol, the seventh seed winning 6-2 6-4.
Janowicz next meets the winner of an all-French match between Julien Benneteau and wild-card entry Lucas Pouille, while Tomic takes on either Frenchman Benoit Paire or Somdev Devvarman of India.
