Dundee have parted company with manager Barry Smith with immediate effect.

Smith took charge of Dundee in October 2010, succeeding Gordon Chisholm who was made redundant as the club entered administration.

Dundee currently sit bottom of the Scottish Premier League and 15 points from safety.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Dundee FC today announced that they have parted company with manager Barry Smith with immediate effect.

"Until matters regarding this have been formally concluded, no further statement will be made."

Despite finishing second in the Scottish First Division in 2011/12, Dundee were admitted to the Scottish Premier League following the liquidation of Rangers.

And despite a disappointing start, leading to speculation over Smith's future in January, the Dundee board publicly backed the 39-year-old in the hope he could improve the club's fortunes.

But with the side having won no games since the turn of the year, and currently on a run of 12 games without a win, Smith has now left Dens Park.
