Cheteshwar Pujara: India batsman's third score in excess of 150 in his last eight Tests

Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay struck centuries as Australia's bowlers were made to suffer on day two of the second Test in Hyderabad.

The second-wicket pair put on an unbroken stand of 294 to lead India to 311-1 in their first innings at stumps, already a lead of 74.

Pujara finished on 162 not out, including 25 fours and a six, while Vijay's unbeaten 129 contained 17 fours and two sixes.

The duo had come together in the fifth over of the day when Peter Siddle (1-51) had Virender Sehwag caught behind for six.

But that was Australia's lone breakthrough as Pujara joined Vijay to bat throughout the remaining 85 overs.

It was slow going initially with only 49 runs scored in the morning session but both batsmen picked up the pace thereafter.

Punished

Test debutant Glenn Maxwell came in for particular punishment, his 10 overs of spin going for 55 runs.

India reached tea on 160-1 and Pujara was first to his hundred, from 188 balls, his fourth in Tests, shortly after the resumption.

Vijay soon followed to the same milestone from 245 deliveries, the second century of his Test career, which resumed in this series after almost a year-and-a-half out of the side.

The runs continued throughout the evening session with Australia's tiring attack short of ideas.

India lead the four-match series 1-0 after an eight-wicket win in Chennai last week.
