England midfielder Tom Cleverley is hoping Wednesday's friendly with Scotland is a feisty affair.
The Manchester United star believes a fiercely contested match at Wembley will provide England with the right preparation with two crunch World Cup qualifiers coming up.
England trail group leaders Montenegro by two points with four games remaining, which come in two double-headers in September and October.
Next month England host Moldova and then travel to Ukraine. In October they have the critical Montenegro fixture and then the final match of the group programme against Poland.
Cleverley said: "It is an important friendly to have because we have two really important games next month.
"We will expect a tough test. We know some of the players from the Premier League and any England-Scotland game will be a fierce game. I don't think it will be a friendly anyway.
"It is a game we all want to win. There will be a great atmosphere there on Wednesday night. It is a perfect friendly warm-up game for our World Cup qualifiers next month."
Cleverley missed the May friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil through injury but he hopes to play a full part against the Scots and the four qualifiers.
The 24-year-old said: "I have got some good games to look forward to and hopefully I can be part of them all.
"It is an exciting start of the season for me. Last season was great for me. To play 30-odd games in a title-winning season (for United) and then nine games for England was fantastic, but hopefully this one can be better.
"I have got plenty of opportunities to establish myself and better last season, with all the trophies up for grabs and qualification for the World Cup. I am looking forward to it."
