Transfer news: Arsene Wenger not expecting Thomas Vermaelen to leave Arsenal in January

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger expects Thomas Vermaelen to stay at the club in the January transfer window despite his concerns over a lack of playing time.
Vermaelen has only made six appearances for the Premier League leaders this season with Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny in such good form at the heart of Wenger's back-four.
But the Frenchman is pleased with the way Vermaelen has reacted to being left on the bench despite admitting his fears for his place in the Belgium World Cup squad.
"It's tough to leave Vermaelen out because of his quality, his attitude and his influence at the club," said Wenger, who denied reports linking him with moves for strikers Alvaro Morata and Alexandre Pato.
"It's a difficult decision to make because he is a top-class player. He certainly suffers but he handles it with great dignity and great professionalism.
"I'm not concerned that he might move in January because if he wants to do that he will come and see me, which he has not done."
