Stevan Jovetic: A return to Fiorentina is unlikely for the striker

Fiorentina have played down speculation linking Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic with a return to Florence.

Injuries to Giuseppe Rossi and Mario Gomez have left the Serie A side with a shortage of striking options, prompting suggestions that they could be in for one of their former stars, with Adrian Mutu also linked with a return.

Jovetic, who left for Manchester City in the summer, has only made five appearances for his new club due to injury worries, while Mutu has since joined Romanian side Petrolul Ploiesti after his contract with Ajaccio was cancelled.

However, Andrea Della Valle, the club's honorary president, says that it would be tough to complete any deal.

"We are looking for high quality reinforcements but it is not easy to find a player like Giuseppe Rossi in the January transfer window," he said.

Speaking of Jovetic and Mutu, he added: "We are attached to them, but these suggestions are very difficult.

"It is virtually impossible for Jovetic to come back."
