Braehead Clan finally broke the resistance of Fife Flyers in the final period to come away with a 4-2 victory in the Elite Ice Hockey League.

Both teams went into the clash having won just one of their last seven league games, and this contest remained in the balance until the final moments.

There was nothing between them after 40 minutes of play, but a third goal from the Clan and then an insurance strike with just eight seconds remaining gave the hosts two much needed points.

Braehead opened the scoring with a strike from Shane Lust at 5.30, but the visitors restored equality at 18.06 thanks to a goal from Derek Roehl.

The teams still couldn't be separated in the second period, the Clan going back in front as Tristan Harper netted at 24.08 before Flyers came back once again with a powerplay goal from Ned Lukacevic.

Braehead took the lead for the third time as Kevin Bergin fired in with nine minute remaining as this time they were not pegged back as Joel Champagne added a fourth at 59.52.
