Kyle Busch leads Kyle Larson over the line to win the Auto Club 400
Kyle Busch held off rookie Kyle Larson in the closing stages to win the Auto Club 400 at Fontana for the second year running.
Busch avoided the tyre problems a number of his rivals suffered to claim his first victory of the season in a thrilling green-white-checkered finish.
Larson pushed hard at the line but he couldn't quite get to Busch as he tried to follow up his win in the Nationwide Series race on Saturday.
Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart completed the top five.
But it was a luckless day for Jimmie Johnson, who led for 136 laps before becoming one of four drivers to suffer tyre problems in the closing 10 laps - Brad Keselowski, Marcos Ambrose and Clint Bowyer were also affected.
Johnson had to pit and eventually finished 24th.
Jeff Gordon led when the final set of pit-stops occurred but he had dropped all the way to 12th by the finishing line.
Just ahead of him in 10th was Carl Edwards, who moves into the lead of the Sprint Cup standings by one point from Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Denny Hamlin was a late withdrawal from the race with a sinus infection which affected his vision and forced a trip to the hospital for tests.
