Kieffer Moore: Backed by boss Johnson
Yeovil Town boss Gary Johnson has backed Kieffer Moore to make the grade in the Championship after stepping up from non-league.
The Glovers snapped the 21-year-old frontman up from Dorchester Town last summer, having been impressed by his obvious potential.
It has not been an easy transition for the youngster to the paid ranks, though, and he has come in for criticism from some quarters.
Johnson understands the frustration of certain sections of the club's support, with a high level expected when competing in the second tier of English football.
He is, however, of the opinion that Moore is of that standard and will prove that to his critics if given time in which to show his true colours.
Johnson told the Western Gazette: "It's an interesting one, he's certainly been thrown in at the deep end.
"If you're coming from Dorchester and going into the Championship then questions will be asked when you don't quite step up to the plate every game.
"He's had a couple of fantastic away performances. The kid has got ability and you don't know before the game whether somebody is going to have a strong game or not.
"Unfortunately when you're as inexperienced as Kieffer, if everybody else around is not playing very well it's very hard to do it on your own. He's not that experienced yet that he can look after a Championship game on his own. If we've got to use him, we've got to use him.
"He's a good kid, he's trying hard, we get into him every day and he will be a top Championship player.
"Once the penny drops he will be a Championship player but he has got to be more consistent than he is. Although, that is the same as a lot of our players and he stands out a little bit more because he's a bit taller and ganglier."
