Trainer Gai Waterhouse is delighted with the Queen's Carlton House ahead of his run in the aptly-named Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

The six-year-old, who finished third in the 2011 Investec Derby when trained by Sir Michael Stoute, has yet to win in Australia but he went very close when short headed by Silent Achiever in the Grade One Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill last month.

"He's happy, he's healthy, he has got a remarkable appetite for work and for food. I couldn't be more pleased," Waterhouse told At The Races.

"I trialled him at Randwick 10 days ago and he did very well and I think it will take a very good horse to beat him."

Carlton House's rider Tommy Berry is looking forward to the race as well.

He said: "I'm very excited about him. He's a quality horse and owned by the Queen so that's always a bit exciting.

"His preparation has gone well and he's had a little bit of time between his runs. His work you can't fault going into this run. I believe he's had the perfect prep to run a big race."
