Belgium manager Marc Wilmots has extended his contract until 2018, the Royal Belgian Football Association has confirmed.

The 45-year-old became the national team boss in 2012 after initially assisting previous managers Dick Advocaat and Georges Leekens.

Wilmots, who made 70 appearances for Belgium as a player, guided his country to its first World Cup finals in 12 years and is now preparing for Brazil this summer with expectations high for his side.

The former Schalke midfielder was originally under contract until after the 2016 European Championships, but he has now signed a two-year extension.

A statement from the Royal Belgian Football Associations read: "Marc Wilmots and the URBSFA have found an agreement to extend their collaboration for four more years.

"He will therefore be leading our Red Devils for the Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup campaigns."
