A second-half strike from Alex Scott was enough to earn Arsenal a 1-1 draw at Notts County in their opening game of the Women's Super League.

England international Jess Clarke had given County a deserved lead before the break with a calm finish following a good run.

But the Gunners battled back and Scott levelled with a fiercely-struck shot from the edge of the box.

The 29-year-old could have won it for her side later in the game but was denied when her free-kick struck the crossbar.

In Wednesday's other Super League game, Champions League semi-finalists Birmingham drew 0-0 with Everton.

City were second-best for much of the match and were close to going behind when Danielle Turner struck the post with a shot.

However, they could have won the game themselves late on but Kirsty Linnett's long-range strike cannoned off the crossbar.

The Blues continue their European campaign on Saturday when Swedish side Tyreso travel to Solihull for the first leg of their Champions League last-four tie.
