London Irish have announced the signing of England qualified Blues fly-half Chris Noakes from Auckland on a two-year deal.

He will compete with Shane Geraghty and Ian Humphreys for the stand-off duties at the Madejski Stadium.

Noakes, 28, made his breakthrough with Otago in the ITM Cup in 2007 and went on to make 26 appearances for the province, scoring 120 points.

He has also represented Bay of Plenty 16 times in the New Zealand domestic competition and signed for the Highlanders at the start of the 2012 Super Rugby campaign.

Prolific

Noakes registered 86 points in 12 starts for the Highlanders, before securing a move to Auckland to join Kiwi rivals, the Blues.

He has played 15 times for John Kirwan's Blues, scoring 96 points, in his two Super Rugby seasons and Irish director of rugby Brian Smith is delighted with the signing.

Smith said: "Chris is a very accomplished fly-half. He's a prolific goal-kicker with a 75% average in the Super Rugby and he knows how to get a back line moving.

"He is also eligible to play for England and we feel he is very well suited to the European game."
