The Los Angeles Kings took a 2-0 lead in their Western Conference semi-final series against the Anaheim Ducks after claiming a 3-1 win at the Honda Center - their sixth successive victory.

The Kings were outshot 37-17, but still secured the victory, with Marian Gaborik putting them ahead after just 34 seconds with his sixth goal of the post-season.

Patrick Maroon levelled for the Ducks, but Alec Martinez saw Los Angeles leading again by the end of the first period before Dwight King wrapped up the win late on.

In the Eastern Conference, the Pittsburgh Penguins downed the New York Rangers 2-0 at Madison Square Garden to take a 2-1 lead in their play-off series.

Sidney Crosby and Jussi Jokinen struck the goals in the second period while goalie Marc-Andre Fleury's second successive shutout, which included 35 saves, ensured there was no way back in for the Rangers.
