Player of Year debate

Join the debate on who should win top award

PFA Players Player

The nominations have been revealed for this season's PFA Players' Player of the Year award and we would like to know who you think should win.

Last year's winner Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the nominees. Is his form for Manchester United enough to land him the prize once again?

Arsenal duo Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor are also nominated. Will the fact they are now unlikely to win a trophy affect their chances?

Liverpool pair Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres join them on the list. Does the Spaniard deserve the nod for the way he has adjusted to life in the Premier League?

The nominations for the main prize are completed by Portsmouth goalkeeper David James. Has his form in the Pompey goal been enough to earn him the award?

Join the debate using the form below.

You can also play your part by voting for who you think the players will choose as the PFA Players' Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year. Go to www.givemefootball.com to vote and you could be in with a chance of winning a signed framed shirt of the Players' Player and the Young Player. Alternatively you can vote via our skysports.com poll although selections will not count towards the prize draw.

Can everyone stop going on about Cristiano "oh what a whingeing little mummys boy i am" Ronaldo. Has everyone forgot what he did 2 years ago at the world cup yea ok hes had a good season but how many have his goals have come from free kicks or penalties and how many of those were awarded through him or another Man u cheat diving as they have a habit of doing. Anyway Torres for player of the season and Gabi or Ashley for young player. ps. Would people have forgiven n been head over heels in love with the Argentinian cheat Maradona if he had come and played in England and had a great season my money says people wouldnt have as he is still one of the most loathed and hated men by English supporters.

Ronaldo will surely sweep all the awards but Gerard inclusion is plain based on his reputation. Also I cant understand why Vidic is not mentioned at all when everyone is asking Rio to be nominated. For me Vidic is more important than Rio as a defender although Rio has a more elegant touch and skills.

Ronaldo is not as good as many of you think he is. Sure he has scored a lot of goals, but 6 of those have been penalties, and at least 4 have been tap-ins at the back post, If the quality of players around him e.g. Scholes, Rooney, Carrick was not so high he would not look so good. Also, he is NOT a big game player. His impact (apart from the penalty) was minimal, and he did not contribute much against Liverpool in either game. He can always turn it on against the little teams, but in a big match he just is not the same player. Personally, I think he is a poor mans Henry. Saying that, I cant really think of anyone apart from Fabregas who has been as consistent against the lesser teams and who's impact on games has been as high. So I would be torb Between Fabregas and Ronaldo.

David James has been outstanding, pulling off world class saves in every match. He has single handedly put Portsmouth in contention for Europe and the FA Cup Final. He earned his recall to the national team and is by far the best keeper in the Premier League. Ronaldo will win many more awards in the future, James should be allowed his glory for a truly exceptional season.

Of course Ronaldo will win it. I'm a Liverpool supporter so of course, I think Torres should win it. As far as debut seasons go, Torres' form has been stunning. Ronaldo never performed on Torres' level in his debut season, and we all know how different the Spanish League is to the Premiership. Torres therefore should win it because of his impact on the Premier League. Although, we are all very lucky to be able to watch the two of them week in week out. Remember the 96.

Ronaldo player of the year. Fabregas Young player of the year.

I do agree that Ronaldo will win it, but in a way its sad that everyone will look at an attacker first and foremost thus favouring them over a defender, so James of Portsmouth will miss out on something that i feel he should have won...because he has been so consistent....making fantastic saves for two seasons now, and playing in every game.....the man is phenominal......but won't get a look in.

I think that's a really good point about penalties and free kicks. Torres hasn't had a single pen or free kick this season, yet is still on 30 goals and counting! How many pens has Ronaldo scored? It would be interesting to hear - but you can't really take the free kicks away from him though as his free kicks are quality. I guess maybe Ronaldo has to get the award, it's a shame they can't share it because I think El Nino's achievemnets this season deserve some recognition. His first season and 30 already, two hat tricks in a row, broken a club record for scoring 7 in consecutive home games... Not to mention his overall ability and playmaking. He's an amazing player, and I bet you all wish he played for you! One happy Red =)

Ronaldo is miles ahead of everyone else. I think he is truly the best in the world, nevermind the best in the league, nevermind players like Messi and Kaka. I am a Man Utd fan, but i know i would feel the same if i were a Chelsea fan. He is unstoppable. The second choice for me would be David James. he has been outstanding for Portsmouth and a joy to watch. Only unstoppable shots and free kicks can stop him, for example, RONALDO =)

Amanda Green says...

There is no point even discussing it,,,,you've got one choice and one only. How can they even consider anyone else. Top 3 place's.........RONALDO RONALDO RONALDO.....Torres 4th,... Rooney and Gerrard dont come close.

I think ronaldo deserve to take all the awards that they have to give away this season, the boy is unstoppable and a fantastic player for a winger.

Ronaldo has shown what can happen when you play football the way its meant to be, he runs at players, beats them, turns inside and then scores.....Or just hammers it in from dead balls. Attack, Attack, Attack !!! He may only have 5 assists in the league this year - but any supporter of any other team would swap him for any player - for his goals and runs - even Stevie "In Andersons Pocket" G !!! Ronaldo will win every award he is up for this year - including world player of the year! Anderson has had a very good first season and should have made the young player shortlist, but it wont matter, as Ronaldo will win that as well. I rate Torres, big time - but he has been used to a small club (AM) with no real ambition, now he has been burdened with all of Liverpool's trophy hopes - that's a lot to take on in your first season, Fair play to him, great player, hope he sees the light and walks to OT !!! Ronaldo to take both - just as United will !!!

Dan Anders says...

Ronaldo should win hands down! If he doesn't then I am honestly going to say here and now that I will stop watching Premier League football because it would be a joke. I can understand all the other nominees apart from Gerrard. Yer he's been good in the champions league, but I can't really remember anything he's done in the premierleague, I can remember a very quiet game against Man United at Old Trafford however, where there's was one man on the pitch that kept him quiet and I am shocked not to see him on the list, that mans Rio Ferdinand!

John Henderson says...

The winner of both awards has to be Ronaldo. I find it strange that people are saying that Torres should get the Young Player award over Ronaldo when Ronaldo is actually a year younger than Torres. Also, while scoring over 20 goals in your first season is impressive (I can't deny that Torres is class), it's not unprecedented. Check out the stats on Ruud van Nistelrooy's first season at United (and that was after returning from long term injury).

Keith Mudiwa says...

Well I think the best player by far this year has been Cristiano Ronaldo. The young man has shown class beyond expectation and left no room for improvement. He has improved vastly over the past two years and it will be an injustice to football not to select him as the PFA player of the year and World footballer of the year. He makes the hardest things seem so simple. He is breaking old age records at will. Go Cristiano!

Rory Dorsky says...

As a manu fan, obviously I would like to say ronaldo. But there's a few points to make when considering the winnner of this award. Ronaldo has scored penalties, free kicks and obviously from open play. But when you take a look at torres, he doesn't take free kicks, doesn't take penalties. He's scored probably every goal from open play, has adapted to the premiership in his first year which is an accomplishment in itself as Ronaldo couldn't do it. His goal against Arsenal in mid-week was proof of the talent he posseses, scoring an amzing goal out of nothing. Done the same against chelsea in his first game, against inter milan also. And scored 2 hatricks in a row which is a league record, plus another hat trick in the carling cup. So lets not be biased, I would give it to El Nino. I wish we had of bought him instead of the scousers

i am a man utd fan and i think Fernando Torres has been outstanding this season,i totaly dig him and he could stand a chance of winning the award...but my man ronaldo is the best, his definetly gona win...Ronaldo is unstopable dats why defenders do not like him!!!!!

Matt Boot says...

Christiano Ronaldo WILL win every award that he is nominated for this year, including both european and world player, especially if Man Utd go on to win the Premiership and Champions League. He has been far and away the best footballer in the game this season, using every part of his game to devestating effect. I only hope that he is still at Utd next season to continue the performance. I know it would take a monsterous fee and record shattering wages package to take him to Spain, but you never, know... footballs a funny old game!

Scott Mcclymont says...

One word RONALDO...simple. I agree Rooney should be up there with him and Rio but, to make it fair I guess, give Fabregas and Gerrard et al a chance...:) Torres has done brilliant in his debut season but, Ronnie has been doing it for 3 seasons now and for me, this is the difference..Ronnie's stats don't lie ..37 goals for a wide player.Magnificent as is he.!
