Mike Ashley's shock attempt to bring manager Kevin Keegan back to Newcastle looks to have failed and now skysports.com wants to hear your views.

Keegan quit St James' Park last week citing his unhappiness with the club's transfer dealings under club owner Ashley and executive director (football) Dennis Wise.

The duo held secret talks in London on Friday night over a possible shock return to St James' Park for Keegan, but were unable to reach an agreement.

With the club's fans making no secret of their backing for the departed manager and planning demonstrations at the game against Hull, what will happen next at Newcastle?

Have you lost faith in the club? Does Ashley know what he is doing? What is Wise's role in all of this?

Who do you want to see replace Keegan? Who will be able to turn the Magpies' fortunes around?

Let skysports.com know your views by using the feedback form below and we will print a selection.

Any successful business listens to its paying customers. Ashley won't listen and won't be successful end of story.

Mike Kennedy says...

There are only two solutions to the current problem at Newcastle United: The first of these would see KK reinstated as first team manager with full control of all transfers in and out of the club, and full control of the first team. As manager he would have to be given complete responsibility for all 'hiring and firing'. Unfortunately it seems that Mike Ashley will not agree to this. The second solution would be for someone of the stature of Alan Shearer to organise a consortium to raise 250 million quid and buy out the said Mr Ashley, reinstate KK and give the club back to the fans. This is what happened a few miles south at the Stadium of Light - local hero Niall Quinn took over SAFC and gave full managerial powers to Roy Keane. What's more it seems to be working.

In every club there is bound to be a clash of personalities, but I think they should put their differences aside and make up for the sake of Newcastle United FC

Why is the board so ready to release statements attempting to prove their passive role in Keegan's departure when the best form of defence would simply be to clarify to the fans what it is they actually do! If, as they say, Keegan was in complete control, what on earth are they there for? I think Ashley is a business man, there is nothing wrong with that at all, but I think he has mixed himself up with THE WRONG ADVISORS. Before my team gets ripped apart by angry fans, a dissillusioned team and a money grabbing board I would advise Ashley either to sell up, or fire his london based cronnies and attempt to blend rather than dominate the local community. Ashley, please return King Kev, or if you cant, then do a little for the fans, rid us of Wise and Jiminez and find a manager who is as passionate, positive and open as KK. Caspar, Northumberland.

Of course it is impossible for other football enthusiasts to comprehend the amount of feeling amongst Geordies for K.K. It is mutual and it is a love affair brought about by the style of football loved by both. With Kev we had that exciting chance to see the type of football we all love up here in the far north. Without him nothing excites, and businessmen flourish. Simple really.

Okay King Kev is a legend and well loved by the toon army.I'm saddened to see whats happened with Newcastle.Surely managers should be in control of ALL football matters, and the rest of the stuff left to the board members.Too many managers have had to leave because of money wrangling, inteference and privacy clauses restricted by their clubs. But why oh why doesnt the managers get a contract stipulating no outside inteference regarding football matters.Well I hope it backfires on mr T and mr unwise haha, because the clubs going in a backwards direction rather than forwards due to the lack of support and ambition.

Brendan King (Manchester United fan) says...

I believe Kevin Keegan was correct to leave Newcastle. I feel that the situation is escalating. Being a man u fan, it may be easy for me to comment, but I firmly believe that there has to be some form of intervention here that allows the manager more time in charge, and more control when he is in charge. My plan would be: An owner/chairman appoints the man he feels can do the job, the owner/chairman leaves all first team affairs to the manager, no exceptions. The owner/chairman cannot sack the manager or terminate his contract for at least 2 seasons. The chairman/owner however, does have the right to call for a vote every half season. If the manager receives more than 50% of the votes from a committee consisting of 100 peolpe, (30% board members, 30% supportes club members, 40% of FA executives and LMA members), then he maintains his post. It all sounds a bit extreme, however, the current state is a mess, so a structure is required here to help save managers, supporters and football clubs. This will avoid managers being pressurised out of jobs, such as Alan Curbishly, KK and soon to be Mark Hughes. Football is a religion, not a toy for billionaires who don't have a clue.

Can someone please tell me why Keegan is treated like a God at Newcastle???? He walks out on everything he does, (although to be fair maybe not is fault this time) and has not won anything! As for Mike Ashley, well NUFC have no way of 'punishing' him. 1) No one will boycott any of the games. 2) The country doesn't care what is happening at Newcastle (not the centre of the universe) so there will be no nattional boycotting of Sports Direct (which would be needed to hit him hard). 3) Posters and banners wont bother him! NUFC fans should resign to the fact that they have little power, and anyway Keegan is useless, he has achieved nothing but nearly pulling NU into a relegation battle last season! Al Fahim looked at Newcastle but probs saw how dillusioned the fans were and thought NO WAY! I just hope the fans finally let go of KK and when Ashley is bought out (he will be eventually) will not call for the quitter to come back again.

Edward Best says...

Shearer does not want to be the coach at NUFC, he wants to be the manager. Surely, no big name will take the job while Ashley is at the helm because they will be Dennis Wise's lackey. Strong rumours exist of an Indian Telecoms giant buying NUFC for 220 million and reinstating Keegan. The bookies have already slashed the odds on the return of "The Messiah" to 14-1.

What a laugh, why watch drab soap opera's on tv when you can watch a good old comedy at St James Park. I've not laughed this much for a long time. I understand Crusty the clown is available if they need a stop gap manager. All we want now is for them to get relegated and watch Mike Ashley waddle out so quick he'll leave skid marks! No sympathy what so ever, it's about time the geordie nation stopped believing they are a top 4 team and come down to reality. Bring on the next chapter of comedy at St James Park.

I think we all have to admit that unless your a newcastle fan, this is highly entertaining and amusing to the rest of us. Any chance we get this happening at Liverpool and Chelsea?

Posted 08:43 6th September 2008

Terry Quinn says...

I understand newcastle fans anger towards wise but i think the structure of the club is at fault. I'm a LEEDS fan and i'm confident of wises capabilities if offered to FULLY manage NUFC, for us no other manager even looked at beckford and howson as first team players until he arrived and now they're awsome because he could see the potential. also he motivates a team like no other. GIVE WISE A CHANCE AND NUFC WILL GROW.

George Walker says...

Rather than fans staying away from the Hull game I'd rather that the supporters organised a boycot of the Sports Direct shops to hit Mike Ashley harder than he's hit us.

Leon Curry says...

As far as protesting goes I would be against anything that will impact on the teams performance and courses of action such as late entry, boycott back-turning etc. can only have a negative impact on the team we support. Supporting Newcastle is not about directors and boards it is about getting behind the team and helping them get the best results. I believe the only form of protest that these business men understand would be a financial one, and I for one will not be spending any money on merchandise, food/drink in the ground or Sports Direct products, until Ashley has done the right thing and sold the club to someone who understands the importance of running NUFC the right way and who recognises it's potential that is yet to be achieved. I will be at the Hull game supporting the team and I only hope other Newcastle fans will be doing the same (if not the only winners will be Hull and the media circus that will surround St James).

Whoever will be the new coach of the Magpies should definitely sack Joey Barton. He does not deserve to play football! He has a rubbish attitude and personality. He's bad for the game, sack him!

James Crowther says...

Unbalievable, this just shows what a sham this club has become. How on earth can they possibly think that kevin would have been their puppet. Not one person with an ounce of sense would take this job unless they had full control of all team matters. My only hope is that Mike Ashley now realises that he has well and truly made the biggest mistake of his life and goes and asks Mr Keegan face to face to come back and manage Newcastle exactly the way it should be done.

I am a Newcastle utd and Brighton & Hove Albion Fan... I Am so dissapointed that Keegan was made to leave.. To come back to the club and be treated with little respect as manager..Instead to allow the useless Dennis Wise make more decisions to do with players,If Ashley has to stay then so be it but GET RID of DENNIS WISE before you get rid of Newcastles Honourable Fans.. Look at how many season tickets and home fans turnup from now on..Say Goodbye Wise before its to late and we end up Relegated with no Fan Base....

Another year another Newcastle manager.... Ashley needs to decide wether he is there long term or short term so a manager can be brought in to have time and money to work with the squad and buy in players "He" belives can fit into the sytem he wants them to play. Not who Dennis wise "Thinks" might fit in well and pays too much money for them. They need to get rid of the "dead Wood" like barton etc and buy in some players who want to play for the team. even if keegan had stayed i dont believe he would of achieved anything at the club at all anyway.. the fans love him because of his commitment and passion and he loves the fans but he is too much of a fan to be a big success

I'm not a Newcastle United or Kevin Keegan fan. However, I feel extremely sorry for all the Newcastle fans today. What's more worrying is i think this is only the beginning. Keegan and Curbishley, are only the start of an exedus of managers who will decide that being a "token" manager is not enough for them. My heart is breaking for our game as a whole, watch this space, this is only the beginning.
