What next for Amir?

Khan: where should he set his sights

Also see

Amir Khan fulfilled a dream on Saturday when he was crowned WBA light-welterweight champion of the world.

But what do YOU think his next move should be?

Should he switch straight to America and take on some of the biggest names in the game, top 10 contenders or fellow world champions?

Or should he stay in Great Britain and build up a fanbase before heading across the Atlantic?

And what about his choice of opponent? Ricky Hatton has been mentioned as an obvious candidate for Khan, but should the friends and compatriots really be considering a match-up?

Would you like to see Khan unify the light-welterweight division by taking on Juan Urango, or Timothy Bradley? And what about if Junior Witter wins the vacant WBC belt? Is that a fight that could happen?

Or does Khan go back down to lightweight and take on the best that has to offer?

Plenty of you have been calling for a rematch with Breidis Prescott, but following the Colombian's loss last week, does Amir really need to put the record straight?

I have never read so much rubbish that I have in some of the comments above. I accept he has been put down a couple of time but the knock out against Prescott should not be used to gauge Khan. That was a Lennox Lewis Hasim Rahman moment. Khan is a tremendous talent and a worthy world champion. I accept there are many fighters out there who would give him a fight, I dont think Hatton is one of them. I am one of Hattons biggest fans but if he fought Khan, he would not deal with this speed. As for Witter, Khan would destroy him. I think Khan should do a mandatory and then go to America. The likes of Mayweather, Cotto, Marquez even Moseley are all good fights for Khan. He has a chance against these guys. I dont think Khan needs wars against Thaxton and Murray and the domestic guys. As for Prescot, where does that fight take Khan, no where.Khan has chosen his route, he is a legitimate world champion, let him fight the best out there and see if he is really good enough. If not, hey he had a go!!

Amir's second cousin here. Well I personally think he should be fighting Dmitriy Salita as his next opponent, because Salita is the only one that desperate and passionate to fight Khan.

I think Kahn should take a fight aginst John Murray, Murray is a underated fighter who needs to be given a chance at a world title, How is it possible let alone fair that kahn got a shot at a world title before Murray ?

Amir Khan will always have doubters, but it has been a real pleasure to watch him develop as a fighter and a personality. He has overcome some rocky patches and now taken a belt which another fighter had. Whether you think the belt is credible or not, Amir worked hard for it and showed the world that he can learn from his mistakes. With a genius like Freddie behind him, and with his great attitude he can achieve whatever he sets his mind to. Bring on Prescott but this time fight him like Michael Watson fought Nigel Benn !!

I think Khan has some great ability but I'm not sure he's ready for the best champions or that he ever will be. I think at this moment in time Hatton would beat him and I think he should fight some avarage fighters and develop more as a fighter before fighting anyone at Hatton's level. Dmitriy Salita seems a good option but I also think he was making lightweight comfortably enough and should drop back down.

We will only know how good khan is by the opponents he fights. How will he cope under 12 rounds of full pressure? Anyway, i dont believe he should of had the world title shot, especiallyt at light-welterweight as i dont believe he has actually earned. How did he manage to avoid the likes of john murray (undefeated) and even jono thaxton. It seems to me a bit of a joke and i think it is desrespectfull to these over fighters. And all this talk of hatton, khan definately hasnt earned that. How come warren got khan the world title shot so soon inhis career but hatton had to wait? ill tell u. Cos warren knows khan has the suspect chin and another knock out will seriously dent the money his fighter is worth so he pushed him forward sooner to rake in the cash.

A good opponent would be Paulie Malignaggi after he's fought Diaz and beat him. Give him a match against Khan - he wouldn't be use to Malignaggi's speed. The only thing is he hasn't got much power. Even though I think Malignaggi would beat Khan, it would go the distance. Or a Breidis Prescott rematch - and Prescott would also win but to knock him out.

I think Khan should fight Prescott again after his mandatory defence... To shut all the people up who are refusing to believe he is a world class boxer just becasue he got caught cold that night... Kotelnik hit him flush on th chin on 5-6 occasions and Khan just came back with stronger combo's. Freddie Roach doesn't lie and if he says Khan has a chin then eveyone should shutup and beleive him! Now Prescott has a defeat on his record this will be a massive fight that will be able to draw Vegas crowds

Congrats to Amir. Did what he needed to do against a mediocre champion. Will he now fight a 'banger', or will he continue to evade the big-hitters. Devon Alexander would be a good fight, providing he beats Witter next Saturday. Both young fighters with 60%+ K.O. records. Prescott won`t happen because the result would be the same. By the way Prescott was robbed against Vazquez.

Now the Khan haters are at it again, he followed the plan, landed more shots (allbeit a lot to Kotelnek's guard). Also excellent footwork and very fast hands. This was a step up in opposition and he will only improve under the guidance of Freddie Roach. I would like to see a match up with Presscott, that would be a real test of character and would show if he has really learnt from that night against a real 'banger'.

He should fight Edwin Valero next. I agree with Freddie Roach who called him an overrated fighter. A lot of sparring with Manny Pacquiao would do Amir good as Valero is a southpaw with comparisons with Pacquiao, but as Roach said he is like Pacquiao in slow motion.

Khan faught a rubbish champion and is a rubbish champion.. 80% of the fight was punching gloves. Khan18%-16% Kotelnik shots on target proves that. It was boring, And Khans new defence just shows how much everyone in Khans camp are scared of his glass just.. Khans new defence is arms and elbows up against his head and head below his shoulders.. I'm sorry but as soon as his fights someone who can punch he is going to get knocked out again, so i expect him to on featherweights and has beens like his whole career.. 1 good puncher and what happen? his career looked over in less than a minute.

i think everyone is getting ahead of themselves. Am i the only one who remembers less than a year ago what Prescott did to Amir Khan he destroyed him. Now everyone thinks he should fight hatton. please. hatton only lost to two of the greatest fighters of our time and now everyone thinks he is shot. not to long ago he was being touted as the best pound for pound fighter in the world now people think he will lose to a 22 year old with a glass chin i think not (as proved by prescott). Hatton has to much power for khan and he is no slouch himself. it just makes me laugh the press turns someone into a hero and then rips the down because they lose twice. Good luck to Khan but when the dusts settles i hope he relises he is not as good as he thinks.

I can only see kahn getting better. I don't think Hatton would really stand a chance, and I think it would be sad end to his career. Hatton has not knocked anyone ot for a while and he never was the hardest of punchers, and given Kahns speed and Ricky's lack of punch resistance I think people would be shocked by how one sided it was. There are plenty of massive fights down the line for Kahn, however I think Salita then Maidana would be a good start.

Loved the fight - it was awesome! But I have to say the very idea that Khan, crosses the Atlantic to take on the US is questionable. I personally would love to see Khan take on Prescott again but there is the issue concerning his confidence after his mammoth defeat, I mean would I want to fight the guy again after such a beating? I think in Khan's position he can afford to sidestep him and rightly so - he holds a world title belt and the last time I checked Prescott hasn't announced that he will be chasing Khan into the light welterweight division for a re-match. The question of a re-match may pop up in the next couple of month's but I would think Khan's best options would be to take on the mandatory challengers, unify a couple of the belts and make the States come to Khan for Wembley Stadium sell out's! We have had a fair few UK based world champions now and it would seem fair to say that Britain has some of the biggest venues available to host super fights. So why not bring challengers to Britain instead of chasing them around the US? We deserve to be able to watch our champions at a reasonable hour with the possibility of being able to attend the events to lend support! US boxing isn't dead, a far thing from it but why do they always get the best events even when they are the challengers? Well my mini rant is over but good luck Khan I have to say I started off being a fan of anyone who was fighting him but can now say he has proven to me he is world class and capable of being a lb4lb great! Again good luck and don't worry about the doubters, they like myself will probably end up being big fans.

It just goes to show that these days it's managers & promoters who maniplulate world titles shots rather than fighters earning them. Last year Khan was humiliated within a round. Two fights later (one against a washed up Barrerra) and he is a world champion. Others would have had to wait years to work their way back up. He doesn't deserve it and will have to avoid any quality punchers.

Would love to see Khan fight Nate Cambell, who had some less than flattering things to say about him back when they were both Lightweights. Would be interesting for sure!

Big up 2 AK as always he showed he can go the distance, if he wanted to go for a knockout he could have. The game plan was set and each round was a well calm and controlled pace. no matter what in boxing you get critics, win or lose they are never happy. i think its time to back britain's golden boy so he can go on to achive more remember he is only 22. the next fight should be Dmitriy Salita.

I want to see Khan step up and take on one of the top ten Ortiz, Maidana, Witter, Hatton, Baily e.t.c these are the fights we can expect to see soon enough now he is champion, I'm worried though that Warren might keep handpicking as he's done previously, but he doesn't need to. With Freddie Roach in his corner Khan did show to everyone he's now developing the skills he will need to able to take on the world class elites. He's far from the finished article but he needs to strengthen up his punches a bit, some of them were a little weak in that fight. I wasn't expecting a knockout but then again Kotelnik is a very defensive fighter who goes 12 rounds most fights.

well done khan for finding an easy title fight. doesnt matter how fast and strong khan gets he will never be able to take a punch. he will never be a great because when he fights the top fighters he will be found wanting. hatton would eat him alive
