Scolari sacked

The sensational news coming out of Stamford Bridge is that Luiz Felipe Scolari has been sacked by Chelsea.

Scolari was only appointed in the summer and oversaw just 25 league games in the Chelsea dugout.

Sky Sports News understands Chelsea already have two names on their short list, with Avram Grant a surprise contender to return.

Guus Hiddink is the other prevalent name on the list, with the Dutchman known to be close to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

Saturday's stalemate against Hull City appears to have been the final straw for the Chelsea board, with 16 points dropped at home this season having hampered their title bid.

Have Chelsea jumped the gun in firing a World Cup winning coach? Did Scolari deserve more time to stamp his own mark on the side?

And what now for Chelsea? Who should they appoint? How surprising is the news Grant has emerged as a contender?

WOW!!! I guess we all saw it coming and that only goes to prove the impatience of some individuals. truth be told the team needs refocusing but sacking scolari i must say is not the answer. the players lack commitment and i wonder why the club did not bring in someone of relevance in the january transfer window and dispose of the ageing non performers. have players worth miilions is not the answer at all times but have a classy player worth a few thousands can just do the trick. well i wish them luck and hope they will be patient with the new guy. all they can swallow their pride(Roman) and bring back grant.

I think Mancini would be a good manager for Chelsea...I still dont know what he did wrong...I mean if winning league titles will not save your job what will??? BUT on the otherhand, Chelsea players said that Scolari's english wasn't really good and it was hard to understand him so Mancini will not be the best choice for now so that is why Chelsea are looking for a manger for a few months my opinion. Also, I think that Chelsea should have kept Scolari and changed the squad in january or maybe at the end of the season I mean AC Milan was in a more or less the same position as Chelsea but AC Milan kept Ancelotti but changed the squad a little bit like oddo, serginho and cafu and brocchi left and dida as the number 2 goalkeeper. So i think Chelsea should change

I don't believe that any coach should be sacked this quickly. That being said, I never thought that Grant should have been sacked in the first place. He took Chelsea to second place in the EPL and second in Europe after a very closely fought championship match that went to penalties. I would not be disappointed to see Grant return but I also believe that Scolari should have been given more time to develop the squad into the team that he wanted them to be. Such a project can take a few years and certainly takes longer than just a few months. He's certainly a good coach, and had Chelsea kept him on longer, then perhaps they would have been championship material in a year or two. No championships are going to come by changing coaches every season.

Abramovich is making a big mistake that can really affect chelsea negatively, as one of their fans said that, (Abramovich is becoming something of a liability to chelsea) which is the real fact. I suggest that they should just a good coach now for them to remain at the top four in order not to cause another disaster. man utd for life.

Chelsea need a British manager, if you look at the top four - Arsenal with Wenger have won things but there currently not doing so well, Chelsea under Mourhino won a couple of titles but they're not doing well now, Liverpool under Benitez have won the Champions League and the FA Cup, then Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson have constantly been up there and won lots of trophies for the past 20 years. British manager is needed!!!!

Big mistake to sack Big Phil, how many games???. Yes, Chelsea are having a bad patch but then who dosen't? Let's face it, Mourihno isn't going back. Those overpaid, overfed players shd be be the ones 2b sacked - Bosingwa, A Cole, Deco? Chelsea shd shut up, shake the team from within and start grinding the results. In their winning seasons that was what it was all about, grinding results or do they have such short memories. All the cash in the world dosen't buy trophies you hear, ZIPPO. It's about battling it out in every game. None of the big teams like to be hussled out of the top spots but do you see them sacking at the slightest bad patch??? And i wonder who the replacement is. C'mon Chelsea, you disappoint me terribly. And i don't even support you guys.

Oh dear ... to paraphrase Dad'd Army, "Don't panic Mr Abramovich." Who next, Harry Houdini?? The problem with Chelsea isn't the manager, it's the players ... too many aging primadonnas who aren't prepared to work hard any more.

Duncan Halliday says...

The current Chelsea team, although it is full of world class, star players, is built for "boring, grind out a win, Jose Mourinho" style football and will never be able to play attacking, free flowing football and still challenge for trophies. If "sexy" football is what Roman wants, Chelsea need someone who isn't afraid to axe some of these big names and start building again, like Pep Guardiola has done for Barcelona this season. Of the mentioned candidates Frank Rijkaard would definately be the best choice. Go CHELSEA!

Matthew Squire says...

Everything has gone wrong without "the special one". Jose. Mourinho understood the club but i think Roman Abramovic just wanted the champions league trophy but the bad thing is weve never won it so if someone dosent win it but they win the fa cup or carling cup theyll still be sacked.

Jamie Williams says...

I bet Abramovich wished he had never sacked Mourinho, and then sacking Avram Grant after he took Chelsea to the Champions League final, What an idiot Mr Abramovich is proving to be, he wants "pretty" football, isn't it more important to win titles no matter? If I was a Chelsea fan, I'd want Abramovich and Kenyon out...and for those who think Jose will go back, you must be joking! He's the next Man Utd manager!I hate Chelsea and am loving everything thats happening to them at the moment!lol

Ian Hodgson says...

I'm glad he's gone, he didn't have a clue! experience! Brazil would"ve won the world cup if my Gran was coach, I think the players need that stability, truth be known we made ourselves look stupid more than once!what was wrong with Ranieri got us to second and poor old Avram and dont even start me on jose.

Vialli and Ray wilkins together play 4-4-2,Bring back Bridge ,sell Obe Mikel ,Ashley cole, one wreckless and the other a coward -turn his back on defence instead of blocking the shot ,Boswinga dont close down on the attackers his the another one. What did they do in there training sessions ,the other is needs wingers to cross the ball over to Anelka and drogba. Remember Duff and Robben?.

The curse of Jose Mourinho can be broken only by Jose Mourinho.I request the management to swallow their pride and bring back The special one

Nick Hadges says...

Scolari was never a proven club manager.Managing a club compared to national teams is different clubs play over 40 games national teams play 20+ if that. The mettle needs to be put back into a team that has lost pride. Gone are the days were every player wanted the ball now everyone walks around waiting for it.More lampards and terrys are what we need with your few flairish players but pride and honour must be restored or we are going to become a laughing stock.Ballack,Deco,Bosignwa,Malouda and Anelka need to take a good hard look at them selves and see if they really want it or they just want the glamour.Zola may be the only one able to restore that but he is still 2-4 yrs away from becoming really experienced.

Jose Mourinho, Jose Mourinho, Jose Mourinho, JOSE MOURINHO! Come on boys, if we sing it loud enough perhaps Roman will hear!

Could all Chelsea fans please wake up and realise that the special one will never return to the Bridge. Without your owners money Chelsea have always been and will always be a mediocare club at best. Deep down you all realise your time in the sun has come to an end and it is time to let the established BIG CLUBS of England get on with the task of winning major honours.

Sanjay Rakesh (Chelsea fan) says...

Its all back to square one for Chelsea.. This decision was all very rushed. Scolari is a great manager(but i think he is more suited to international than club). He brought in attacking football to Chelsea, something that neither Avram Grant nor even the Special One could do. Abramovich is becoming something of a liability to Chelsea. And as for the new manager, Avram Grant would be a disaster. Hiddink...im not sure. But i think Rijkaard or Mourinho would be the best choice. Even though Jose as a very small chance of returning to the Bridge, he would do wonders. I think he is the ONLY man who can revive Drogba. If we cant get him we might as well sell drogba. Rijkaard, as of now, best option.

Chelsea fans have a terrace song in which they claim to be the Famous CFC. Famous for what exactly i would like to know!! Because of finance they assume that they should reside among the top 4 in the premier league. The truth is that Chelsea are a mid table team who are there to provide some entertainment to the big boys of the league and that is their true stamp.

Posted 04:25 10th February 2009

Khalid Sodha (Liverpool fan) says...

The board at CFC are a joke. Abramovich hasnt got a clue about football and its time for him to sell the blues very quickly. Some of the blame has to be put on some of the players as they have not shown desire and grit to want to win games. Scolari is a top guy and honest. The CFC squad is getting too old and there is no youth. I can seriously see black clouds looming over stamford bridge as Abramovichs pounds have ran out, players want to leave and squad has aged.

Oh how quickly things change, when Roman the destroyer bought Chelsea everyone was saying how great he was it was what the league needed, He tot he could buy the success Man Utd had but remember success is temporary class is permanent Chelsea will never have that cos they never did have it to begin with. Lets see managers queue for the job now with an aging team and no money to spend and a bunch of babies who dont want to play. Ferguson has been at Utd for 27 years now has built so far 3 very successful teams and in the process of building his fourth in the youth he has brought in with an average age of 21, Managers need the backing of everyone from the top down to be successful and let the manager control affairs on the pitch that is where utd are lucky cos even with new owners and board members over the last few years Ferguson has been allowed to do what he does best and manage the team without any outside influence from the board, whats wrong at Chelsea is Roman wants control of everything and it is destroying Chelsea he needs to go cos if he does n there is only way Chelsea are going to go and that is down the table and end up like the were before the Roman era an average mid table team at best
