Tevez: Forced out of United
If I play for Manchester City I don't think the United fans will feel I am a traitor.
Tevez on joining City
Quotes of the week
Argentina international striker Carlos Tevez believes Manchester United fans will forgive him if he seals a move to neighbours Manchester City.
The fans' favourite departed the Premier League champions this summer following the conclusion of his two-year loan, despite United's best efforts to retain his services.
The Red Devils agreed to pay the £25.5million fee required to secure the 25-year-old's services permanently along with dishing out a lucrative five-year contract.
However, Tevez, who now looks primed to seal to move to Eastlands, does not believe United fans will hold a grudge as he feels he was forced out of Old Trafford.
Tevez thoroughly enjoyed his first season after playing a major role in Sir Alex Ferguson's side, but felt his lack of first-team football last term meant his situation was no longer tenable.
"If I play for Manchester City I don't think the United fans will feel I am a traitor," he told The People.
"They have to remember that at least as far as I know I have been thrown out of the club and I have to study the best offers available.
"[Leaving] came about because I could not stand my sporting situation at Manchester United any longer.
"My first year was good in all senses. I played in the games and felt respected by the coach but in my second year some strange things happened that I still do not understand.
"After the game at Old Trafford where Liverpool beat us [4-1, in March], Ferguson ignored me almost as if I was to blame for the defeat when really Liverpool dominated us all over the pitch.
"After that the fans called for me to be in the team but he never took the advice on board because he always knows best.
"I gave everything for Manchester United and people know that. For that reason I don't deserve the way things have ended up."

Tevez is a great player and its sad to see him leave. But if his reason for leaving is lack of play time, i think it would be even worse at City. City is a very rich team and is tearing up the transfer window bringing in more and more player. City also has lots of attacker, unlike manutd, which tevez will have to compete with for a starting spot. Santa Cruz, Robinho, Bojinov, Elano, Bellamy(remember him?) and are still looking to sign Eto from Barca. Tevez will have more worries and less playing time at mancity than with manutd.

I think it is a disgrace what tevez is saying . He won almost every trophy at united and this is the way he repays us . I cant believe he said he would not go to liverpool cos they are rivals well what are city . He should just get on with his football and stop slagging united off . What makes him think if he does go to city he will play every game cos there are other better players that are on there way or are already there. Let him go there and moan at finishing outside the top 4 each year and not winning any trophys cos city are still not good enough to win any trophys it will take them at least another 5 years before they can compete with the top 4 . GOOD RIDDANCE GREEDY TEV .

Fergie has made a much better signing in owen, owen is a prolific striker who went given the chance will score goals, also he is not going to cost the club millions of pounds a year on wages and has come on a free, he will easily make up his wages with shirt revenues! i cant wait for the lad to score at the kop end!

Maybe the prospect of City's millions has gone to his head? I think people need to understand that he was not treated badly (like you no what goes on on a day-to- day basis anyway). He was acting like a spoilt little girl, waving to the fans after being substituted due to another poor performance. The bottom line is, 5 league goals is not United standards and 25million is not worth it. Owen will score more and he cost nothing. Everyone knows why hes going City and despite his best efforts to move on good terms, he will get booed and deservedly so.

Carlos Tevez is a good enough player despite not finding an F,A. cup with his international credentials, he should have a go at staying in the Manchester area with Manchester City, a club that could settle his contract talks with ease.

Of course they will not forgive him !! And why should they ! he blatantly played up to the fans knowing he was going to leave because he wasnt guaranteed a start ! I hope he gets the Boo treatment from the Utd fans he has treated with such disrespect. The comments being made now are all about trying to deflect the mans out and out greed ( kia is quite clearly his puppetmaster !!) I expect OT to be a cauldron for the city utd derby and a lot of the wrath will be aimed at one greedy argentinian man

Good luck to Carlos, I hope he is satisfied with the money he earns at his new club. Carlos just remember Alan Shearer and ask him how many medals he won when he moved for the money!!

What ever makes you sleep at night Carlos!!!! SAF was true to his word and has found a way to secure you the contract I believed you desreved, if you dont want it then be man enought to say so, not this rubbish about being forced out - Man Utd supportes support true reds at heart... run to City and enjoy.

Sour grapes, Tevez only wanted respect as all players do. If second string team is picked and you are kept on bench, that's a slap in the face. I'm sure SAF did not communicate with him as to why, cuz he doesn't answer to anyone. Man U fans should just wish him luck and respect his choice. SAF should have tried to buy him earlier and show a bit that he really wanted Tevez. He realized when Ronaldo left that the team would need Tevez around. go in peace Tevez. another story like Veron....

Steve Jenkins (Braintree Town fan) says...
The Man Utd fans who are saying he left for money are full of wind. Why should he be treated like rubbish for the 2 years he was there? Like his agent said, if it was Wayne Rooney then would man utd have left it til 1 month before his contract expired? Answer, NO. Why should he be treated this way when he ran his guts out for the team. And the idiots saying he has no 1st touch and cant finish, yeah right. If he had signed your 5 year contract he would be the best thing since sliced bread, now he rejects you and he is rubbish. Grow up. A full Argentina international who puts Berbasloth to shame.

You could never question his commitment to the cause but really 25.5 Million is a lot of money for a headless chicken i'd have rather had Forlan back. He's sadly mistaken if he thinks he'll get a warm reception for trotting over to the Council House only one player has gotten away with it the 'Lawman' and thats because he's a legend Tevez doesn't quite fall in to that billing in my eyes.

Phillip Davidson (Aston Villa fan) says...
Carlos Tevez was offered a contract by MUFC. He rejected the offer. Now he states, "as far as I know I have been thrown out of the club". Carlos' English is not so good, and my Spanish is lousy, but I suspect that something got lost in translation. May I propose that when he made the "thrown out of the club" statement, what he really meant was, "Kia told me that he could get me a lot more money if I went to City or Chelsea". There would be nothing wrong in such a choice. However, while I do not think that Carlos is kidding himself, as there is a lot of money involved, he should not be under the illusion that he can kid the United fans.

Tevez went for money pure and simple he said he would not go to Liverpool out of respect for united fans thats lies Liverpool just didnt have the money Thats the real reason Carlos your not as good as you think you are your just another over hyped and over paid footballer throwing his dummy out!

Qabs Hanipah (Manchester United fan) says...
Okay, Tevez was great in his first season at United. But in the second season he was nowhere near his best. He still made more appearances than the other players in the team but scored only 5 goals. 32 appearances 5 goals? Yes a lot of those appearances came from the bench but still its not like you never made any starts at all. Go to city i won't boo you but remember how you were when you were at west ham and united took you in.

Zak Mercier (Manchester City fan) says...
Tevez is a great player and he was badly treated by united, so he left. While he was a united player I did not hear one bad word about Tevez from a united fan. Now all of a sudden he is apparently overrated, greedy and going to city just because of money. Tevez is not that kind of player and you lot know it. He loves playing football and he wears his heart on his sleeve. Some players maybe happy to sit on the bench and collect their wages (berbatov), tevez is not one of them. He wants to be involved all the time because he loves the game. United have lost a quality player, and replaced him with the living joke that is micheal owen because they can no longer attract the biggest names because they are no longer the only rich successful club available in the premiership. If Tevez comes to City it will be because he can see that City are going to be one of the most successful clubs in England in the near future and he wants to be a part of it. It is quickly becoming a cliche to have a pop at City for spending money. Success costs money and United have been buying it for years. We spent £32.5m on Robinho, but United spent £30m on Berbatov, £30m on Carrick, £20m on Rooney. The list goes on, so any United fan claiming players only go to city for the money are short sighted and hypocritical. Anybody can see that success is just a matter of time away for City and United fan's pitiful attempts to spoil our party are futile.

Jae Elliott (Manchester United fan) says...
Tevez had a choice, he could have taken the contract and proved his worth, instead his reps chose money. You wanna talk about not enough playing time, look at Nani who hardly played yet you dont hear him complaining. At Manchester United you FIGHT for your place, you are not a STAR when you are there you make up the STAR which is the club. So long Tevez, Manchester UNited is sooooo much more than one player. Manchester United is the team, the fans, the people, the staff and the past players.

Josh Atkins (Liverpool fan) says...
Although United fans will deny it, Fergie treated Tevez appaulingly. Tevez was complaining about the poor treatment before a contract was offered so it's obviously not about the money. The fact is Fergie only offered Tevez a new contract because he sold Ronaldo and he then found out Liverpool and Man City were in for him. By the time Fergie got round to offering a contract, it was too little too late. Ferguson needs to rethink the way he treats his players as it's finally come back to bite him.

Don't make me laugh Tevez, you were offered a deal, you turned it down. Maybe if your goal ratio was better, then you would have started more. I can't critisize you for effort you put in, but £25 mill for 6 premiership goals last season, no thankyou. Good luck at City, next season, Carling cup games await you...........

Gareth Emsley (Manchester United fan) says...
I cant believe there are United fans commenting on how SAF has got it wrong. Tevez was offered a 5 year deal with wages to make him one of the clubs top earners, all after a season when he scored 5 league goals. Does that sound like someone who has got it wrong? All season long Fergie said he will be offered a deal to tie him to the club and in the end he was as good as his word. So how does that make him a liar Carlos? I think you might be trying to kid yourself and all the United fans by blaming Fergie. It was your decision alone to take more money and run. At United it is a squad game, there have been much better players over the years than Tevez at United who have accepted that... namely Solskjaer.Maybe players like Tevez need to take a leaf out his book.

Andy Bowley (Manchester United fan) says...
Better players have been shown the door at Old Trafford and none of them have harped on about how poorly they were treated. I am sure there are reasons he was shown the door and only Fergie & Tevez probably know the reason. But lets look at the facts,he has left for financial reasons not football , He will probably be warming the Bench at City and he will be forgotten by the end of next season. With all this bad mouthing of Fergie the fans will back one man and it will not be Tevez.
