Kenny Dalglish has warned the imminent return of Steven Gerrard will not solve all of Liverpool's problems.

The Reds have suffered back-to-back defeats at Stoke and Tottenham to dampen the club's bright start to the new season.

Gerrard is in line to make his long-awaited return to action in Wednesday's Carling Cup tie against Brighton and, although Dalglish will be happy to have his skipper back, he has called on the players to improve on the dismal showing at White Hart Lane.

"It's natural everyone wants to chase Stevie, especially after you have lost 4-0," said Dalglish.

"But we'll see how it goes and when both parties agree he'll play.

"Stevie has done fantastically well to get where he is, and having him back in the side can only be a good thing.

Improvement

"But we know there is plenty of room for improvement after a defeat like that, and we have to correct the mistakes we made, improve on it and try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

"This is about a team and about a squad and not one player. Each player has to look at themselves, and correct the mistakes they made - and that is all they should concentrate on. "

"We have had good days and we will have a lot more coming but that doesn't mean we dismiss a performance like that.

"When we played well we went out and worked hard to make it better and we'll do exactly the same."

Competition

Reds midfielder Charlie Adam has welcomed the return of Gerrard even though it could cost him his place in the side.

Adam, who will miss the trip to Brighton as a result of his sending off at Spurs, admits Gerrard's return will provide the club with a timely boost and that it could be difficult for him to get his place back in Dalglish's starting XI following his suspension.

"It's going to be difficult for me because Steven will want to play the same as everyone," noted Adam.

"When he does come back, it's then up to the manager to decide."
