Havant and Waterlooville defender Justin Gregory has admitted he is 'devastated' after his dream of playing against Liverpool ended on Wednesday.

Gregory is suspended for the FA Cup fourth round tie at Anfield as he picked up a one-match ban after accumulating five yellow cards.

A potential solution presented itself after Havant rearranged their fixture against Thurrock for Wednesday evening.

Gregory remained hopeful that the match at Ship Lane would resolve his plight, despite The Football Association branding the solution a breach of the rules and warning him that it would not relieve him of his suspension.

Floodlight failure

The fixture went ahead, however a faulty floodlight caused the game to be abandoned, ending Gregory's dream of playing against the club he supported as a boy.

"I believe in fate, and unfortunately the dream has ended their. I am devastated for myself and my family," he told Sky Sports news.

Havant manager Shaun Gale added: "It's life, and you have got to get on with it. Maybe we have got rid of our bad luck ahead of Saturday."
