Beckham: Still watching from the bench

I don't want to say he's healed and he'll be available for the game on Thursday but we'll see.

Los Angeles Galaxy coach Frank Yallop is confident David Beckham's debut will bring an end to the constant media circus around the midfielder.

Beckham is still to make his first Major League Soccer appearance as an ankle injury has kept him on the sidelines since his arrival in LA last month.

The England international watched his new team-mates draw 0-0 against Toronto FC on Sunday.

Photographers and television crews surrounded Beckham at BMO Field and Yallop is desperate for him to get into the action and end the media circus.

Beckham's ankle continues to keep everyone guessing about when he will make his first start for the Galaxy, but Yallop is hoping it will be soon.

"What we're trying to do is get him on the field," Yallop said. "Once he gets on the field it's going to kind of go away I think.

"The game was going on and there are people in front of me taking photographs. We need to get away from that and we're trying to get him on the field."

Beckham is getting closer to returning to full fitness and could possibly be ready in time for the Galaxy's next game against DC United on Thursday.

"He ran a bit more today and the ankle felt a little bit looser than yesterday," Yallop added. "I don't want to say he's healed and he'll be available for the game on Thursday but we'll see.

"We've got a couple of days until that game and we'll see how he responds after the bit of work he did today. He's getting better."
