Uruguay claimed the final spot at the World Cup finals after securing victory over Costa Rica in the play-off clash.

The South American giants overcame their Central American opponents to make sure every previous World Cup winner will be in South Africa.

Uruguay took a 1-0 lead into the second-leg in Motevideo after victory in San Jose at the weekend.

The home grabbed the lead 20 minutes from time when Sebastian Abreu headed home.

Costa Rican captain Walter Centeno then gave his side some hope of claiming victory with an equaliser three-minutes from time, but Uruguay held on to book their place in next summer's finals.
