Scholes: Injured after 16 minutes

Sky Bet's customers who backed Paul Scholes to be first goalscorer against Aalborg on Tuesday got their stake back as a free bet after the midfielder limped off 16 minutes into the match.

Speaking of the bookie's fairplay concessions, Sky Bet's Helen Jacob said: "We want customers to get a decent run for their money in the first-scorer market so it's only fair to refund stakes on players who leave the pitch before half time."

The Harrogate-based firm will also refund stakes as a free bet if you're season-long top goalscorer pick leaves his club before the end of the season and if a correct-score bet goes down in injury time.

City up for cup run

Sky Bet make Manchester City their 11/4 favourites to progress the furthest of the British teams in this season's UEFA Cup.

City will be looking to book their place in the group stages of the competition on Thursday night when they face Omonia Nicosia at home, holding a 2-1 lead from the first leg.

Sky Bet make Tottenham 3/1 to go the furthest of the British sextet, while Aston Villa can be backed at the same odds.

Spurs look to have a tricky battle - they head for Wislaw Krakow only 2-1 up from the first leg - but Villa have a 3-1 lead ahead of their clash with Litex Lovech.

An all-British final is priced at 14/1 and it's 100/30 for a British team to lift the trophy next May.

The Harrogate-based firm offer 22/1 that all six British teams to win their matches this week. The others in action are Portsmouth (away to Vitoria Guimares), Everton (at Standard Liege) and Motherwell (home to Nancy).

Away-day blues

Celtic's woeful away record in the Champions League continued after a 1-0 defeat to Villarreal on Tuesday night and Sky Bet are offering odds on whether they can win on the road in their remaining group games.

The Hoops have now taken just one point from a possible 48 away from Parkhead at this stage of the competition and they face an uphill struggle to reach the next round having also failed to beat Aalborg in their opening home match.

Gordon Strachan's side have two away games left - first at Old Trafford to face Manchester United and then at Aalborg's Energi-Nord Arena - and Sky Bet make it 8/11 they win exactly one of these while it's 16/1 they take maximum points in both.

However, the firm also offer 11/10 about them winning neither game.

United up and running

Manchester United are Sky Bet's 13/2 second favourites to win the Champions League after they claimed a 3-0 victory over Danish minnows Aalborg on Tuesday night.

Wayne Rooney put United in front with a neat finish after Ryan Giggs had sent him clear midway through the first half.

But Dimitar Berbatov stole the show after the interval, the record £30.75million man lashing home his first for the club before sealing victory with an equally spectacular scissor kick 11 minutes from time.

With four points on the board from their opening two games, the defending champions are now 4/9 favourites to top Group E with Sky Bet while Villarreal are 7/4 after they defeated Celtic 1-0 at El Madrigal.

Marcos Senna's free-kick after 67 minutes consigned the Hoops to yet another defeat on their Champions League travels and Gordon Strachan's men can now be backed at 16/1 to win the group.

Celtic striker Georgios Samaras squandered a great chance just before the interval and the visitors were made to pay for that miss after Paul Hartley fouled Joseba Llorente 25 yards from goal as the Spanish international curled the ball past Artur Boruc.

Meanwhile Arsenal have been cut to 10/1 with Sky Bet to lift the trophy as the Gunners resumed normal service at the Emirates Stadium with a thumping 4-0 victory over Porto in Group G.

Dutch international Robin van Persie struck his first goals in European competition for a year, pouncing either side of the interval and displaying strength during a well-taken second.

Emmanuel Adebayor set up the opener for his strike partner and also helped himself to a brace, the second from the spot after Nicklas Bendtner had been hacked down by Freddy Guarin.

Arsenal are now Sky Bet's 1/3 favourites to top the group with Porto 7/2 second favourites despite this heavy loss. Dynamo Kiev are 12/1 after their 0-0 draw with Fenerbahce, who can be backed at 14/1.

Elsewhere Real Madrid are 8/1 to win the Champions League having defeated Zenit St Petersburg 2-1 while Juventus are 16s having only drawn 2-2 with BATE.

Chelsea remain Sky Bet's favourites at 9/2 and they face Cluj in Romania tonight.

Keane to score

Robbie Keane is 5/4 with Sky Bet to finally open his Liverpool scoring account in tonight's Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven.

The Republic of Ireland international is still to score after 10 games for his new club following his £20million move from Tottenham in the summer.

In recent weeks Keane, who is 9/2 to score first tonight, has received strong support from Steven Gerrard and Dirk Kuyt, and now midfielder Javier Mascherano says he will soon form a "great partnership with Fernando Torres".

With Gerrard searching for his 100th goal for the club - as Liverpool look for their 100th goal under manager Rafael Benitez in European competition - Sky Bet make the skipper 11/8 to score anytime and 5/1 to net the first of the match.

Star striker Torres is the favourite to score first at 3/1 while he's 8/11 to strike anytime against the Dutch outfit. In the match betting, Liverpool are strong 4/11 favourites with PSV 9/1 and the draw 10/3.

Cipriani comeback

Wasps are 2/5 with Sky Bet to beat Bath in their Guinness Premiership clash tonight as Danny Cipriani starts his comeback from injury.

England fly-half Cipriani will be back in the Wasps number 10 shirt - six weeks ahead of schedule - having recovered from a fracture dislocation of his right ankle he suffered four months ago against Bath. On the handicap, Wasps are 10/11, giving up a seven-point start.

The Adams Park encounter is one of four matches taking place tonight and table toppers Sale make the trip to London Irish, where they are Even money with Sky Bet to claim victory with the hosts available 5/6.

Elsewhere, Guinness Premiership favourites Leicester are 10/11 with a 13-point deficit to get the better of Northampton while Bristol are 10/11 with a four-point advantage to defeat Saracens.
