Jelena Jankovic celebrated her pending return to the top of the world rankings with a clinical 6-3 6-4 victory over Nadia Petrova in the final of the Porsche Open in Stuttgart.
The second seed was already set to usurp Serena Williams at the top of the pile and she duly completed back-to-back victories following her success in China last week.
The Serb clinched breaks of serve early in both sets but although the Russian hit back to level at 3-3 in the second, Jankovic immediately grabbed back the advantage and her consistency proved too much for the world number 18.
Petrova's afternoon was summed up by the final game. Serving to stay in the match, she planted an easy volley about a metre long to go 0-15 down. She was then wrong-footed by a Jankovic backhand that flew past her for 0-30.
The Russian wafted a crosscourt forehand well long to give Jankovic three match points and handed over the first of them with an awful approach that hit the top of the net.
"I went for every single point and tried everything," Petrova said. "I just made too many unforced errors and the key to playing Jelena is to be consistent."
Jankovic, who was winning her third title of the season, added: "I am really proud of myself. I am playing with a lot of confidence and I played some good tennis this week.
"I feel that every day I am getting better and better. I am really working on my game, I want to reach my full potential.
"That's two titles in two weeks and I'm back up to number one so obviously things are going pretty well for me now."
The Serb has the choice of taking home prize money of $98,000 or a Porsche car.
