Anna Chakvetadze's abysmal recent form continued with a second-round defeat to Iveta Benesova at the WTA Fortis Championships in Luxembourg.
The Russian second seed has won just one match in her last six tournaments and showed no signs of ending that slump against Benesova.
The unseeded Czech, who beat Britain's Laura Robson in the first round, claimed an impressive 6-3 6-4 triumph.
There was better news for the big names elsewhere as third seed Daniela Hantuchova, fourth seed Caroline Wozniacki and fifth seed Amelie Mauresmo all notched victories.
Slovakia's Hantuchova dismantled Sabine Lisicki of Germany 6-0 6-2 in the second round, while Danish teenager Wozniacki saw off China's Peng Shuai 6-4 6-2 at the same stage.
Former world number one Mauresmo battled past Stefanie Gehrlein 6-2 3-6 6-0 in her first-round contest.
