Anne Keothavong defeated eighth seed Carla Suarez Navarro at the ASB Classic, continuing her excellent start to the 2009 season.
The British number one cruised to a 6-2 6-4 victory over the Spaniard, following her straight sets defeat of Mirjana Lucic in the first round.
The 25-year-old will face Ayumi Morita in the quarter-finals after fourth-seeded Aleksandra Wozniak suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of the Japanese qualifier.
Olympic champion Elena Dementieva is also through to the last eight after comfortably beating local favourite Marina Erakovic, setting up a clash with Shahar Peer of Israel.
Dementieva said it was a tough match due to the strong crowd support for the Kiwi.
"I think we had a good fight in the first set and I played a little better than yesterday and this is what I need, just to improve and keep playing better tennis in every round," she said.
Second seed Caroline Wozniacki, of Denmark, also secured a quarter-final spot with a 6-4 7-5 victory over American Jill Craybas.
Elsewhere in the draw, sixth seed Nicole Vaidisova, seventh-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and number three seed Anabel Medina Garrigues all crashed to second round defeats.
