Lloyd: Weighing up his options
Great Britain Davis Cup captain John Lloyd is considering his future following a record fifth successive defeat.
Having crashed to a 3-2 loss to Lithuania Great Britain now face a relegation play-off against Turkey in July to avoid dropping into the bottom tier of the competition - Europe/Africa Zone Group III.
And following the disappointing run of defeats - the first time a GB skipper has overseen five consecutive losses - Lloyd has admitted he could now stand down.
"I'll ask myself, 'Did I screw up or could someone else do a better job?'" the former Australian Open finalist said.
"I don't do this just to walk around in a tracksuit saying, 'I'm the Davis Cup captain'. I'll need to have a think about things."
Despite doubts over Lloyd's future, the LTA have denied reports that they have lined up former British number one Greg Rusedski for the role.
Rusedski, who won 30 of his 43 Davis Cup matches during a 12-year period, is already working with the LTA in a coaching capacity and would be the obvious replacement.
However LTA player director Steve Martens has dismissed speculation that talks have already been held with Rusedski over the position.
"We have had no direct contact at all (with Rusedski)," he said.
"I think it would also be very disrespectful to a guy like John to do that when we haven't even finished the tie.
"Greg is a fantastic coach, he works with us, he's fully on board working with some of the male players and John so far has been fully in the loop in everything we do.
"Clearly we have to be swift and decisive. But it is very important that in the heat of the battle you don't do anything emotional.
"We have to be looking at this together with the captain, reviewing where we were with our players, where we were with our selection, where we were with the preparation of the players.
"That is exactly what we'll do over the next few days and the captain will be a full part of that."
