British No.1 Elena Baltacha overcame a slow start and a stuttering performance to reach the second qualifying round of the Indian Wells Open in California.
Baltacha, who is hoping to break into the world's top-50 this year, lost the opening set against Julia Boserup but the Scot regrouped to claim a 2-6 6-4 6-4.
Boserup had not been expected to pose much of a problem for Baltacha - with the American ranked 500 places lower than the 26-year-old.
However, she was able to frustrate and disrupt Baltacha - although the Brit was able to dig deep to grind out the win.
Both players were guilty of failing to hold their serves, with a total of 10 breaks, but Baltacha managed to hold when it mattered most to keep alive her hopes of securing one of the 12 qualifying places.
