British No.1 Andy Murray has been named as the fourth seed for the US Open.

The 23-year-old, who was beaten by Roger Federer in the 2008 final at Flushing Meadows, goes into the tournament having retained his Toronto Masters title and reached the last eight in Cincinnati.

Five-time champion Federer, who lost to Murray in the final in Toronto, is the second seed, while world No.1 Rafael Nadal is the top seed as the Spaniard looks to win the only Grand Slam title to have eluded him.

Serbian Novak Djokovic is seeded third, with Sweden's Robin Soderling ranked fifth.

Home hopes will rest on ninth seed Andy Roddick, while John Isner, Mardy Fish and Sam Querrey are also seeded.

The women's seedings will be announced tomorrow with the singles draws set to take place on Thursday.
